Why not at Plone.org?
Why another site? Why LearnPlone? Why not at Plone.org?
We know what you're thinking. Why not put this at Plone.org where 98.9% of the Plone community checks first for information? It's a fair question and there are certainly benefits to putting it there.
However, after considering all the options, we felt a seperate site, with a focused objective on understandable, content editor documentation was the best option. Plone.org is a fantastic resource for the Plone community with different goals and objectives for the community. And at the end of the day, we just didn't feel confident dropping in our documentation next to the latest tutorial on Archetypes development or unit testing. Especially, when even basic understanding of HTML, let alone CSS, Python, TAL, METAL, isn't often a given.
Additionally, the audience for this site is not likely to be an active participant of the Plone community and probably doesn't want to be. We believe there was probably a similar line of reasoning, which led to the seperate entity of Plone.NET.
Ultimately, we want this to be a contribution to the Plone community and are more than willing to entertain any and all suggestions to make this so. For this reason, we provide an un-themed version of the site at LearnPlone.org and all content is licensed with the Creative Commons license. Please use this.
Additionally, if anyone makes a compelling reason to maintain all content within the Plone Collective, provide the site as an installable Plone Product, contribute content to the contextualhelp project, donate the rights to the Plone Foundation, subdomain this site off of plone.org, or any other unforeseen possibilities, please be in touch, as we'll seriously consider your proposal.
